Spreadsheet::WriteExcel is a great Perl module for generating useful Spreadsheets with multiple worksheets, cell formatting, and data validation. You can use these spreadsheets for simple reporting, of course, or you can use them as an alternate interface to a data heavy application. In this talk we’ll learn a handful of techniques for making a custom, usable spreadsheet that your users can download and fill in. The can they can upload a completed spreadsheet to load data into the app.
This talk will focus on advanced techniques available with Spreadsheet::WriteExcel. We will also take a quick look at techniques for making spreadsheets available for download from a web application, as well as options for parsing and interpreting uploaded spreadsheets. After this talk you will be able to create usable, interactive spreadsheets with Perl.
