This talk will discuss the race to the cloud, and what is happening to allow for portability amongst providers. Currently every provider implements their own interface into their own services. As more products are moved on to providers such as Google App Engine, or Amazon Web Services, standards are emerging to ensure that vendor lock-in and proprietary APIs are avoided. With a completely open and transparent interface to the cloud, users can switch vendors at any time, and new providers can compete in the market. While this is the ideal case for consumers, it is a challenge to make sure that all providers work with one another. We will discuss the current state of the movement, and where it is headed.
