How I Built a Cool Monitoring Application Using Dojo, AJAX and REST

Moderated by: Irfan Ahmed
Location: Ballroom A2

A simple Rich Internet Application (RIA) feels very robust and responsive to a client using it.

RIA development is a complete paradigm shift from Java web application development. As we move away from Java web applications, we realize that we no longer have features that are available by default in a web container. These features include form based login, security constraints, localization, sessions and so on.

We will discuss how these and other issues were overcome in the implementation of Web Stack Enterprise Manager, which is a monitoring application which displays various monitoring metrics for the Sun Web Stack components.

The session intends to

  • Discuss the things we learned in moving to a RIA – a programming paradigm shift
  • Dojo framework and how it was used create our monitoring application
  • Dojo’s graphical data representation abilities
  • Sun GlassFish Web Stack Enterprise Manager demo – a web based monitoring application for the Sun GlassFish Web Stack
