Write Beautiful Code (in PHP)

PHP
Location: Portland 251 Level: Intermediate
Average rating: ***..
(3.82, 11 ratings)

In this talk, Thomson will present guidelines for writing, not just maintainable, but beautiful code. The examples given are in PHP but the principles apply in any language.

Beautiful code is important in any language, but PHP is often criticized for the frequency of ugly coding practices, and PHP programmers for being hacks. Thomson will show how elegant, working code comes from the mind of the programmer, and not from the tools.

In this session we’ll work through how to create PHP that is:

  • Simple
  • Robust and error resistant
  • Secure
  • Both scalable and performant
  • Easy to produce in a reasonable time frame
  • Maintainable, also in a reasonable time frame
