Prerequisite knowledge

Attendees should have prior experience with React.

Many of us write JavaScript apps, using frameworks and libraries to bring our web apps to production. In the past few years, there has been what many may call a JavaScript renaissance: many frameworks and libraries with great support from developers have come into the community. Those who used React in any capacity are now able to leverage their experience to build native mobile apps without fear of losing development consistency. Rushaine McBean offers an overview of today’s JavaScript and hybrid app ecosystems, as well as a brief introduction to React, before moving into the React Native framework and demonstrating how you can write mobile apps for either iOS or Android devices.

Topics include:

  • An overview of the JS framework/library ecosystem
  • React core concepts and components
  • The React lifecycle
  • Using Flux and Redux
  • Additional libraries used with React
  • Prepping your environment for React Native development
  • Creating mobile views in React Native
  • Handling styling, touch events, and data
  • Building and testing your app
