Description

This tutorial is open to anyone with an OSCON badge.

Perhaps you’re bored at your current job. Perhaps you’re new to the tech job market. Perhaps your company lost funding and you were laid off. There are a million reasons why, but there’s one common element: Sometimes we all have to play the job-hunt game. And the game sucks.

From unresponsive recruiters to pointless interview questions, a job hunt can be a demoralizing and dehumanizing process. VM (Vicky) Brasseur walks you through how to make it more productive and less stressful. Vicky has 20 years of experience in tech, most of them on the other side of the table as a hiring manager, and she’s spent many years doing career coaching for job seekers. Tap into her knowledge and experience to find out what will help get your application noticed—in a good way.

Topics include:

  • Finding the good job postings
  • Résumé and cover letter dos and don’ts
  • Organize, organize, organize
  • You rule the interview
  • Negotiating the offer
  • And more

What you'll learn

  • Learn how to make your job hunt more productive and less stressful

Lovely presentation I enjoyed it very much and took copious notes. I am happy with my job, but people often ask me for job search advice, and I feel on much firmer ground giving it now.
