Description

Applications of all types, from social media to healthcare to media, are increasingly focused on human beings and their relationships. But human beings do not lend themselves easily to being reduced to small slots. It’s increasingly important to find sensitive, legally compliant, and successful ways to incorporate data about human beings and their families, histories, and jobs into data sources.

Christophe Pettus draws on decades of experience in data modeling and application design to explore the pitfalls of bringing one’s own cultural bias to data modeling, how to successfully approach modeling humans and their relationships, and important legal compliance issues (especially now in a GDPR world).

Prerequisite knowledge

  • A basic understanding of application design and data modeling (useful but not required)

What you'll learn

  • Identify cultural biases in modeling human beings in data and common anti-patterns and pitfalls in human data modeling
