What are the challenges facing storage engines today and tomorrow? Solid state storage, machines with 16, 32, 64 cores and beyond, cloud computing environments and unlimited scale-out. These are the areas in which a storage engine must prove itself now in order to be equipped for the future.
This session will discuss the design of the PBXT transactional storage engine, and the ideas and solutions, planned and implemented to meet these challenges.
Topics include: SSDs (Solid State Drives) and performance, isolation and synchronization mechanisms used in PBXT, concurrent index updating, and other unique features of the engine implementation. Advanced subjects covered include: engine level replication, synchronous replication and building HA solutions with PBXT.
We will also look at PBXT in the context of the Drizzle project and the potential for semi-durable and memory resident tables.
Paul McCullagh is cofounder of PrimeBase Technologies and open source company based in Hamburg, Germany. He has 18 years experience in the design and implementation of database and internet related systems. Paul has a Master of Science in Computer Science from the University of Cape Town where he specialized in operating system design and implementation.
Paul is the developer of the PBXT transactional storage engine for MySQL (www.primebase.org). Most recently his work has included the development of the BLOB streaming engine for MySQL (www.blobstreaming.org).
