Database Integrity Protection with MySQL and DRBD

Architecture and Technology, MySQL Cluster and High Availability
Location: Ballroom G Level: Intermediate

A good DBA is a pessimist by trade, expected to prepare for just about every catastrophe imaginable. A good DBA prepares against data loss by employing clustered, highly available database solutions, and MySQL with DRBD is an excellent choice for that.

In this session, the speakers will recap on the general design guidelines for highly available MySQL databases on Linux with DRBD, and place a particular emphasis on how DRBD earns your database immunity against loss of hardware, loss of network connectivity, and loss of I/O reliability.

Florian and Phil will also present new DRBD features which enable stretched-site setups involving geographically dispersed redundancy, and which prevent data corruption even if your network hardware is unreliable.

About DRBD:
DRBD, the Distributed Replicated Block Device, is an open source shared-nothing storage replication technology integrated with MySQL Enterprise. MySQL customers using DRBD include, Europe’s largest on-line reservation agency, the Swedish police force, and the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC).

About the speakers:
Phil Reisner is the original creator of DRBD, and co-founder and co-CEO of LINBIT, the company responsible for the development of DRBD.
Florian Haas is an expert in high availability solutions, a Senior Consultant, and MySQL’s “DRBD go-to guy” at LINBIT.

LINBIT Information Technologies is a privately owned company founded in 2001. Based in Vienna, Austria, LINBIT’s extremely cost-effective high availability solutions are employed by customers around the globe.
