PostgreSQL is highly customizable, but which settings are most important and what values are most appropriate for a typical installation? This talk will explain the basics of how to configure PostgreSQL for reliability and good performance.

The major topics will be:

1. Making sure that your data will survive an operating system crash.
2. Adjust memory usage parameters for optimal performance.
3. A quick and dirty guide to tuning the query planner.
4. Additional performance considerations for large systems.

Robert Haas


Robert Haas is a PostgreSQL hacker and enthusiast who has been using and enjoying PostgreSQL for more than 10 years. Beginning in late 2008, he became active in the PostgreSQL development effort as a patch reviewer and CommitFest manager. In December 2009, he became a PostgreSQL committer, and in April 2010, he joined EnterpriseDB as a Database Architect.
