The PBXT Storage Engine, which ships with MariaDB and Drizzle, is now a well established part of the MySQL ecosystem. Its distinctive, log-based architecture, performance characteristics and unique features make it a compelling alternative to InnoDB.

This talk covers the latest developments to the PBXT Storage Engine. This includes a description of engine level replication and the SSD-based secondary caching mechanism. The discussion will reveal how you can use a combination of conventional drives and solid state technology to get more “bang for buck”. Emphasis will be placed on technical aspects, discussing how things work, and giving practical examples.

I will present the latest performance results for PBXT which reveal a particular sweet spot when running a new benchmark called the “Provider Benchmark”. This benchmark simulates the administration of e-mail accounts and other document management systems. We will investigate why PBXT performs so well in such tests.
