The MariaDB Knowledgebase

Moderated by: Bryan Alsdorf
Location: Ballroom E Level: Novice

In this BoF we will talk about the creation of a comprehensive knowledgebase for MariaDB, MySQL, and related projects. Bryan will demo a prototype of a new wiki-like Knowledgebase system and Daniel will talk about the work to fill it with content and eventually get it to the point where it will be a complete reference manual and knowledgebase for MariaDB and MySQL.

Good documentation is key to the success of any project, and MySQL has some of the best around. However it is not available under an open/free license, so when we make improvements or introduce new features into MariaDB we can’t simply improve the existing documentation, we have to write our own from scratch.

But why stop there? Instead of simply creating static documentation, let’s make it interactive and give users the opportunity to ask
questions and have them answered by experts in the community. Then let’s use those questions and answers to add to and improve the documentation.

Oh, and while we’re at it, let’s release all the content under a Free Documentation license so everyone can benefit.
