Backing Up Distributed MySQL Applications - Taking a Snapshot of a Thousand Dancing Dolphins

Products and Services
Location: Ballroom H Level: Novice

Increasing number of large MySQL applications, e.g. social networking
back-ends, use a distributed MySQL architecture. MySQL data is
distributed logically or heuristically on multiple real or virtual
servers. Backing up such large and dynamic environments presents its own complexities. Application managers desire a
point-in-time restore which is coordinated across multiple servers. In
this presentation, we will discuss multiple techniques to solve this
problem. We will also provide trade-offs based on on-the-ground
experiences, e.g. coordinated backups vs. coordinated restores.
