We will go through the most common issues we have faced in this regard and demonstrate how proper instrumentation at the database level can make you a better DBA.

These instrumentation techniques do not require special tools and can mostly be implemented via stored procedures, events, or simple shell scripts. The Pythian Group has developed and refined these techniques since 1998, for 52 different MySQL environments (clients) spread across 700+ databases.

Areas that will be addressed are:

collecting and using performance metrics (how and what to collect)
Configuration auditing
DDL auditing
Event scheduler jobs
Range partitioning

Is it possible to share the code to keep track of the mysql’s variable changes? I don’t think it is in the slide presentation.
