JupyterCon Community Sprint Day (sponsored by Bloomberg)

Sponsored by:
bloomberglabs.com

Join us for the free JupyterCon Community Sprint from 9:00am to 5:00pm on Saturday, August 25, at the Hilton Midtown (Murray Hill), sponsored by Bloomberg. During this “open studio,” you’ll work side-by-side with the leaders of and contributors to the Jupyter Project and related ecosystem to implement that feature you’ve always wanted, fix bugs, write documentation, test software, dive deep into the internals of a project, get started on a new project, or just learn how to get started to use or contribute to open source.

This event is free to attend but registration is required. Sign-up now.

Attendees of all experience levels are welcome. There will be a short introduction to the GitHub workflow for new contributors. Laptops are recommended. For more details, see the JupyterCon 2018 Sprint Day GitHub repository.

Projects leaders will coordinate the work on a project, help contributors, and suggest some items that would be great to work on. If you’d like to be a project leader, please contact Kyle Kelley (Netflix, working on nteract, Hydrogen, the notebook format, Jupyter protocols) and Jason Grout (Bloomberg, working on widgets, notebooks, and JupyterLab).

Sprints stay fairly informal. There will be a short introductory session to orient sprint contributors and allow people to speak on projects and areas they’d like to focus on. The majority of the day will be devoted to small groups working together. You are free to change groups any time.

Outline

  • 9:00am: Introductory session
  • Break into separate groups (One group will provide a mini “Contributing 101” tutorial to introduce the basics of participating in an open source project like Jupyter.)
  • Boxed lunch
  • Continue sprinting
  • 4:30-5:00pm: Closing session (Contributors speak on what they sprinted on, the progress they made, and what they’ll do next)
