Frank is well-known for his blog, and for his
analysis on Web 2.0, social media and emerging technologies and has been
featured in a number of publications including TechCrunch, iMediaConnection, as
well as on his blog and related video podcasts on SOMEWHAT FRANK TV.

In May 2006 he co-founded TECH cocktail with Eric Olson, a
community building startup which offers events and community-powered projects
open to bloggers, technology enthusiasts, entrepreneurs & professionals
interested in technology in under served technology communities. Hosting events
in Chicago, D.C., Boulder and Boston, Frank recently co-hosted the first TECH
in Chicago
and you can expect to see more from TECH
cocktail soon as it continues to live up to its name by fostering community building via a “cocktail of TECH

Frank Gruber is a principal product manager for AOL in the People Networks group. His past
AOL successes include the myAOL personalized startpage which has been
rolled out globally since launching in July 2007. Frank has developed online
product strategy for and Tribune Interactive, a subsidiary of
the Tribune Company. Frank has also offered strategic Web and social media
consulting services.

Growing up in the Chicago area,
Mr. Gruber received an MS in Computer Information Systems from Northwestern
University, and a BS in Computer
Information Systems from Purdue University.

As the CEO of KickApps, Alex is responsible for building a world class technology, marketing, business development, finance, and operations team with the goal of providing web publishers the tools to easily enable their sites with User Generated Content, Social Networking, Premium Video, and Content Syndication capabilities.

Before joining KickApps, Alex was President and COO of JumpTV, a leading Multi-Cultural Internet Protocol Television Network. Prior to JumpTV Alex spent 8 years at AOL most recently as the Vice President of Product Marketing for AOL’s Audience business where Alex and his team were responsible for re-launching the AOL Portal and delivering an entire suite of web-based applications including: AOL’s Video Player, Video Portal, Streaming Video advertising platform, AIM and AIMpages social networking service. Prior to that, Alex was General Manager of AOLTV, where he established strategic relationships with DirecTV, TiVo, OpenTV and Philips Electronics. Prior to joining AOL, Alex spent ten years in the software industry participating in three successful startup opportunities.

Alex has an MBA from the Albers School of Business at Seattle University and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Colorado.

Michael Jones is CEO of Userplane and Vice President of AOL, and oversees Userplane business strategy, sales and operations.

As founder and CEO of Userplane, Jones brought the company from startup to acquisition by AOL in August 2006. As Vice President of AOL, he now focuses on the growth of AOL syndicated application strategy under the Userplane brand.

Userplane supports more than 50 million users in 15 countries across 150,000 different web publishers. Userplane has been recognized as a pioneer in open widget distribution and Flash web application development, and has provided web infrastructure to companies such as MySpace,, and Honda.

A serial entrepreneur, Jones founded Elixir Magazine in 1994, a nationally distributed pop-culture music and entertainment magazine. Subsequently Jones founded his first digital production studio PBJ Digital in 1996, during his junior year in college. Jones earned his Bachelor of Arts in International Business and Marketing from the University of Oregon.

Kerry Pearce-Parkins is the Vice President of Products and Marketing at is an ultra-personalized social media website located in the DC area. Prior to joining Mixx, Kerry spent 12 years at AOL, most recently as VP of Social Media Products, responsible for AOL’s Community, Social Networking and Instant Messaging Initiatives. She holds an MS in Economics from the University of California, Davis and a BS in Economics from James Madison University.
