We live in a world of increasing urbanization, which signals both human ambition and the beginning of new and complex challenges – overcrowding, persistent unemployment, and greater exposure to natural disasters. Innovative and collaborative responses are needed to address these challenges to our urban world, while also empowering citizens and strengthening communities. In this session, Judith Rodin, President of the Rockefeller Foundation, will discuss how public, private and philanthropic sectors can become a collective engine for social impact. Using the Cities of Service program as a prime example of a cross-sector approach to increase volunteerism and revitalize city life, Dr. Rodin will share her ideas on how government can engage citizens through social innovation.
