Amver, sponsored by the United States Coast Guard, is a unique, computer-based, and voluntary global ship reporting system used worldwide by search and rescue authorities to arrange for assistance to persons in distress at sea. With Amver, rescue coordinators can identify participating ships in the area of distress and divert the best-suited ship or ships to respond.
Amver’s mission is to quickly provide search and rescue authorities, on demand, accurate information on the positions and characteristics of vessels near a reported distress.
The Web based request product allows international search and rescue coordinators rapid access to critical life saving information allowing them to exploit commercial vessels to search for those in distress at sea. The system centralizes requests for assistance to a single point of entry and eliminates barriers to entry (or request) such as language differences.
Mr. Strong is the Director of Amver Maritime Relations in New York City. Mr. Strong’s office is responsible for the marketing, recruitment and retention of commercial ships in the Amver system.
