Last year the Financial Times just became the first major publisher to create a touch-optimised mobile website experience that rivals the best native apps available today. By doing this, they’ve created a platform-agnostic solution from which their award winning journalism can reach more users. Every new release further pushes the boundaries of what can be achieved solely with open web standards. This session discusses the business sense and some of the high level technical challenges of innovating in the browser.

Andrew Betts is principal developer advocate at Fastly. Andrew’s area of expertise is emerging web technologies, particularly on mobile and tablet platforms. Previously, he was a PHP and JavaScript developer, web standards advocate, and founder of FT Labs, an emerging web technologies division of the Financial Times, where he and his team created the FT web app, one of the best examples of what can be achieved with HTML5.
