Prerequisite knowledge

  • A general understanding of modern web development
  • Basic knowledge of Angular(If you aren't familiar with Angular, take the Angular Tour of Heroes tutorial.)
  • Familiarity with Cordova (useful but not required)

Materials or downloads needed in advance

  • A laptop wth Node.js, Git, Ionic CLI, Chrome, and Microsoft Visual Studio Code installed
  • A mobile device or a mobile SDK (Useful if you want to run the application on an iOS and/or an Android device or emulator but not required. If you don't install a mobile SDK, you'll be able to test your application in a browser on your computer.)

What you'll learn

  • Understand Ionic's technical stack (Ionic, Angular, and Cordova), how to use Ionic to build hybrid mobile applications, and how to use it to develop progressive web apps
  • Explore the markup needed to use the Ionic framework and the additional tools and services available that help create apps faster


Chris Griffith offers an introduction to the Ionic v2 framework, a powerful hybrid mobile solution. Built atop of Angular 2 and Apache Cordova, this framework gives developers an incredibly powerful set of mobile components to create app store-ready or progressive web apps.

Chris Griffith is the user experience lead at home automation and security company Nortek Security & Control as well as an instructor at the University of California, San Diego Extension, where he teaches mobile application development.
