  • You're a designer trained in traditional design tools such as Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator and want to learn how to craft modern data visualizations from datasets.

Prerequisites:

  • A basic understanding of visual design and digital design tools

Using lectures on information design, examples of how data visualization is used online and in print, and hands-on exercises that put these ideas into practice, Rune Madsen explains how to design compelling visual stories from data.

Topics include:

  • The history of information design
  • Why and when to use different chart types and maps
  • How to find, download, and prepare datasets for use in data visualizations
  • How not to lie with data
  • How to create charts with Tableau Public
  • How to create interactive maps with CartoDB
