Steve Johnson gives an interactive discussion centering around his philosophy on product design, organizational management at scale, and the importance of culture designed around diverse perspectives and inclusion. Drawing on a range of personal experiences, from working with autistic children to heading user experience efforts at companies including Electronic Arts, Adobe, and LinkedIn, Steve explores the evolution of user-experience cultures across the Valley and what he believes the ROI of a compelling experience is. Steve will also share his philosophy on hiring, plus marketing and scaling teams in the midst of a highly competitive, hypergrowing market.
Steve Johnson is a pop culture fanatic and avid musician whose career in user-centered design started as a skills trainer with autistic children at Pacific Autism Center for Education (PACE). By redesigning and tweaking everyday objects for children with mild to severe autism, he developed a design philosophy focused on observing behaviors, mapping patterns, identifying goals, and testing key assumptions.
After PACE, Steve worked in interactive gaming with Electronic Arts and later moved to Adobe Systems, where he led the User Experience Design Group, a team responsible for Adobe’s mobile, consumer, and professional product lines.
Now with LinkedIn, Steve leads a multidisciplinary team of user experience design (UED) professionals made up of marketing and brand communication designers, voice and tone specialists, user researchers, and product designers. Responsible for creating experiences across mobile, desktop, and the Web, the UED team plays an integral part in improving usability, growing member engagement, and increasing revenue across LinkedIn.
