A design sprint is a time-boxed, disciplined way to get validation on an idea to ensure you design something people need and/or want. C Todd Lombardo guides you through a mini-design sprint so you can get firsthand experience of what it’s like to participate in one. You’ll walk away knowing how to implement them in your organization.

A design sprint can be broken into five phases:

  1. Understand (discover insights and define the problem): focusing on the problem that needs to be addressed, determine what is currently known and what additional information is necessary.
  2. Diverge (generate solutions): generate ideas that solve the challenge(s) identified by your insights in a brainstorming ideation session.
  3. Converge (rank and select): examine all the solutions exposed in the previous phases in order to select a single variant to bring to life.
  4. Prototype (build the solution): make a prototype that can test the core assumptions of the design sprint.
  5. Test (observe customer impact): learn if your solution solves a problem users have by watching them interact with your prototype.

In this workshop, small groups will work their way through each phase. Along the way, we’ll discuss tips and “gotchas” for how to execute design sprints in your organization and hear stories of how other organizations have implemented them.
