There are 15 million trips a day on Uber platform with 3M+ active drivers and 75M+ active riders across 700+ cities in our Ridesharing business. To operate at this scale, we need systems that can continuously predict the demand and also balance it with how we optimize our Spend and Operational costs. My team at Uber builds these systems that enable Forecasting of how our markets will perform yearly/monthly. We also generate Insights for Operational Intelligence that drives Uber’s annual budget and determines the level of investment to be applied at each city and region across global markets.
Our ML platform uses Artificial Neural Network and Recurrent Neural Network models to model each city we operate it as a micro-economic market with the deep understanding on how Uber’s actions may influence the outcome in each of them. We enable the users to create various scenarios and choose the one that works best. We provide analytics on Forecast vs Actuals and enable continuously adjusting the predictions to facilitate optimal outcomes. You’ll leave the session learning about our Big Data, ML Platform and the various models used and some of the best practices on how to optimize those systems.

Anu Gali is an Engineering Leader at Uber leading Business Insights. Her team is responsible for Rides/Eats Trip Forecasting, helps business Optimize budget across Operations and Business units and predicts Customer Value across all our users. As a tech leader, Anu has built high performing engineering teams from the ground up and steered large-scale projects in Data, ML, Web, e-Commerce and Mobile technologies for companies such as Uber, Groupon, Shutterfly, and Adobe. Anu strongly believes in having an entrepreneurial mindset and in helping others to reach their potential. A few years back, in her spare time, she co-founded a company and released a social entertainment app “IntoMovies”. She also volunteers for a number of charitable organizations and STEM programs.
