Velocity 2016: Building resilient systems at scale

Since 2008, Velocity has brought together talented people from diverse backgrounds who are doing amazing things in web performance, web ops, and DevOps. The breadth of our program continues to grow: at this year's Velocity, we'll hear stories of great success, worthy failures, and concrete technical solutions around these themes:

Performance for the people: It's not just about page-load time anymore—the focus is shifting increasingly to seamless user experiences and human interactions. Design and design thinking is changing the way we approach our work, products, and teams.

Measuring the right things: CPU, memory and disk monitoring are not going to tell you if users are being impacted or your business is at risk. How should we adapt metrics and monitoring approaches?

Infrastructure reimagined: Containers, microservices, "serverless" architectures...the ground is moving beneath us while we're running on it. Let's go beyond the buzzwords and hype and explore practical solutions using microservices and/or containers and scheduling at scale.

Financial systems: We're seeing a rapid increase in the complexity of financial systems, along with consumer demand for speed, reliability, and security. How can organizations keep pace with the complexity, especially where older, legacy systems prevail?

Case studies: Velocity was built, and continues to thrive, based on practitioners standing on stage and telling true tales. We'll hear practical stories of true-life experiences, both successful and not, that others can learn from.

Topics we'll explore at Velocity include:

  • Automation
  • Business skills
  • Cloud
  • Continuous delivery
  • Databases
  • Deployment
  • Design
  • DevOps
  • Edge computing
  • Enterprise
  • Middleware
  • Mobile
  • Networking
  • Organizational optimization
  • Resilience engineering
  • Responsive design
  • Security
  • UX optimization

Join us September 19-22, 2016 at the New York Hilton Midtown for a rich learning experience with other practitioners, developers, system administrators, and engineering managers from around the world. Take a look at the schedule and start making your plans today.
