Bill Schmarzo, author of the upcoming Big Data: Understanding How Data Powers Big Business, to be published by Wiley, is responsible for setting the strategy and defining the service line offerings and capabilities for the EMC Consulting Enterprise Information Management and Analytics service line. He’s written several white papers and is a frequent speaker on the use of big data and advanced analytics to power an organization’s key business initiatives.
Bill has more than two decades of experience in data warehousing, BI, and analytics applications. Bill authored the Business Benefits Analysis methodology that links an organization’s strategic business initiatives with their supporting data and analytic requirements, and co-authored with Ralph Kimball a series of articles on analytic applications. Bill has served on The Data Warehouse Institute’s faculty as the head of the analytic applications curriculum.
Previously, Bill was the vice president of analytics at Yahoo where he was responsible for the development of Yahoo’s Advertiser and Website analytics products, including the delivery of “actionable insights” through a holistic user experience. Before that, Bill oversaw the Analytic Applications business unit at Business Objects, including the development, marketing, and sales of their industry-defining analytic applications.
Bill holds a masters degree in business administration from the University of Iowa and a bachelor of science degree in mathematics, computer science, and business administration from Coe College.

Jon has over 20 years of Health Sciences industry experience. Jon has been an industry Partner with the EMC Consulting Health Sciences practice for the last 9 years. He is one of the senior leaders responsible for healthcare and pharmaceutical offering development and delivery. He is responsible for the EMC Consulting Patient Engagement Ecosystem offering and EMC Consulting overall healthcare Patient Predictive Analytics services. Jon also drives EMC Consulting IT Transformation, Enterprise Document Management, and Portal Strategy for the Health Sciences practice.
Before joining EMC, Jon spent several years as a Life Sciences Practice Director with Paragon. He also founded ecommerce provider Eventory, Inc. Jon started his career as an Associate with McKinsey & Co.
Jon holds an MBA from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the M&T Jerome Fisher Program at the University of Pennsylvania.
Christopher Keene is Vice President for Cloud Computing Solutions at VMware. At VMware, he is responsible for delivering architectures and vertical solutions that drive enterprise adoption of cloud computing and big data.
Previously, he was CEO of WaveMaker Software, an open source cloud development platform backed by a 20,000-strong developer community. Before that, he was the founder and CEO of NASDAQ-listed Persistence Software, the company that patented real-time, distributed data management.
Chris created the first Electronic Medical Records application for the PC – Medaid – in 1981. He has also held management positions at McKinsey & Company and Hewlett Packard.
Chris is a passionate entrepreneur who has founded four companies and taught MBA programs as an Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship at INSEAD. He graduated with honors from Stanford’s Mathematical Sciences program and has an MBA from the Wharton School of Business.
Hulya Farinas has extensive experience applying algorithmic approaches to complex problems in multiple verticals. Before joining Pivotal, she had held positions at IBM and M-Factor where she helped her customers make optimal business decisions under uncertainty by marrying machine learning algorithms with optimization routines. She is currently a senior principal data scientist at Pivotal where she is the lead for healthcare vertical. She holds a Ph.D. in Operations Research from the University of Florida.
