Gary Bradski

Dr. Gary Rost Bradski is VP of Technology at Rexee Inc. a new startup applying machine learning to rich media on the web. He is also a consulting professor in the CS department at Stanford University, AI Lab where he mentors robotics, machine leanring and computer vision research He has a BS degree in EECS from U.C. Berkeley and a PhD from Boston University. His current interest is in applying highly scalable statistical models in computer vision and in continuous machine "learning in clutter" in robotics in general. Some external tools he started for this are the Open Source Computer Vision Library (OpenCV HYPERLINK "http://sourceforge.net/projects/opencvlibrary/" \nhttp://sourceforge.net/projects /opencvlibrary/), the statistical Machine Learning Library (MLL comes with OpenCV), and the Probabilistic Network Library (PNL). OpenCV is used around the world in research, government and commercially (for example in wide use within Google). All libraries are open, and free on Source Forge for commercial or research purposes. The vision libraries use and helped develop a notable part of the commercial Intel performance primitives library (IPP). Gary led the vision team for Stanley, the Stanford robot that won the DARPA Grand Challenge autonomous race across the desert for a $2M team prize. He lives in Palo Alto with his wife and 3 daughters and bikes road or mountains as much as he can.

Rasmus Lerdorf is known for having gotten the PHP project off the ground in 1995, the mod_info Apache module, and he can be blamed for the ANSI92 SQL-defying LIMIT clause in mSQL 1.x which has now, at least conceptually, crept into both MySQL and PostgreSQL.

Prior to joining Yahoo! as an infrastructure engineer in 2002, he was at a string of companies including Linuxcare, IBM, and Bell Canada working on internet technologies.

Ted Leung is a Senior Engineer at the Open Source Applications Foundation (OSAF), where he is working on the Chandler Personal Information Manager. He is also using his experiences as a member of the Apache Software Foundation (ASF) to help OSAF bootstrap a vibrant community around Chandler. Ted continues his involvement with the ASF, where he is working to help new projects become a part of the Apache community. He was one of the original developers of the Xerces-J XML parser, and a founding member of the Apache XML Project. Adam Leventhal is a Staff Engineer in Solaris Kernel Development. He is one of the three authors of DTrace for which Adam has received Sun's chairman's award for technical excellence in 2004, was named one of InfoWorld's Innovators of 2005, and won top honors from the 2006 Wall Street Journal's Innovation Awards. At Greenplum he developed Bizgres MPP, parallel database software RDBMS capable of scaling to Petabytes. Prior to Greenplum, Luke founded the Linux Supercomputing practice at HPTi and was responsible for a number of world record supercomputers including the $15M Forecast Systems Labs machine that was #5 on the top 500 supercomputers list in 1999. Alex Martelli

Alex Martelli is Uber Technical Lead at Google, Inc. Martelli holds a laurea in Ingegneria Elettronica from Bologna University. He wrote Python in a Nutshell, and also co-edited the Python Cookbook. Paul McMahan

Working in the academic research community led him to become an avid user of the open source software now commonly referred to as LAMP. Eben Moglen

Professor Moglen earned his PhD in History and law degree at Yale University during what he sometimes calls his “long, dark period” in New Haven. Ian Murdock

Ian Murdock is Chief OS Platform Strategist at Sun Microsystems and chair of the Linux Standard Base (LSB), the Linux platform interoperability standard. Prior to joining Sun, Ian was CTO of the Linux Foundation (formed through the merger of OSDL and the Free Standards Group, where he was CTO) and cofounder, chairman, and chief strategist of Progeny, a Linux distribution vendor that builds custom Linux platforms for companies building server appliances and other Linux powered products. A longtime Linux user, developer, and advocate, Ian founded the Debian project in 1993. Today, Debian is one of the most popular Linux distributions in the world, with millions of users worldwide. Debian is also widely considered one of the most successful and influential open source projects ever launched: More than 1,000 volunteers in all parts of the world are currently involved in Debian development, and the founding document of the open source movement itself (the Open Source Definition) was originally a Debian position statement. Ian was also a founding director of Linux International (1993-1995) and the Open Source Initiative (1998-2001). Ian holds a B.S. in Computer Science from Purdue University.
