After an adventurous cross-country trip across the US on Sunday, I settled into my OSCON rhythm on Monday. The tutorials seem to be very well attended this year, at least the ones that I've signed up for. Yesterday was all mobile, learning Android programming in the morning and Appcelerator (a write-once, run-many-platforms tool for mobile) in the afternoon.
The lunch was at least 3/4 full, which makes me wonder where all the people will fit once the full conference starts tomorrow. As is typical for OSCON, the WiFi limped along yesterday, not at all helped by folks downloading large packages at the last minute for sessions. I'm trying to hold off switching over to my 3G dongle as long as possible (as I'm not sure AT&T will be that much of an improvement...)
I blew off the BoF sessions last night, as jet-lag was catching up with me and I had back-home work to catch up on. I took time off to go out to dinner with some of the crew from DynDNS. We ended up at a very different restaurant called Biwa, about a 15 minute walk from the convention center. It serves Japanese tavern food, lots of pickled stuff and grilled meat kabobs.
This morning, I'm sucking down Erlang as fast as I can. I'm a one-time LISP person, so a lot of it is mapping to things I already know, but I'm looking forward to the concurrent programming stuff that's coming up. This afternoon is going to be Cassandra, and then I'll be getting revved up for my Ignite talk this evening. If you're already in town, come and see if I can pull it off!
