Zaheda Bhorat is a former Senior Technology Advisor for the Office of the CTO at Government Digital Service. She was Instrumental in developing the open standards policies for open document formats used in the UK government, and championed the use of open standards, open source and open data in the digital services delivered.
Zaheda is an early active contributor in the open source community, through her work leading the OpenOffice.org project at Sun, and in the creation of Google Summer of Code. She also headed up the open standards office for Google, and lead internal transformation as director of open source at Salesforce. She is on the board of directors of Mifos, an open source initiative helping financial institutions provide digital financial services to the poor.
