ScaleDB provides a pluggable storage engine that turns MySQL into a clustered shared-disk database. In a shared disk environment, multiple database instances share the same physical data. ScaleDB delivers on the once elusive goal of dynamic scalability in the cloud. ScaleDB transparently transforms existing MySQL applications to scalable cloud ready applications. Users can add/remove nodes on the fly, without interrupting the applications. Each node has read/write access to the entire database. Because each node provides redundancy for the other nodes in the cluster, ScaleDB also delivers high-availability. This talk will highlight the main processes and methods used to transform the open source databases to scalable databases in the cloud and present benchmarks that demonstrate the power of the shared-disk architecture.
Moshe Shadmon is the founder and CTO of ScaleDB. Moshe is the creator of the ScaleDB indexing technology and has more than 20 years of experience in both technical and management roles. Moshe’s technical experience has been in the areas of high performance indexing solutions, unified storage for structured and semi-structured data and shared disk architecture. Since 2006, Moshe has become increasingly interested in the opportunity presented by the open source databases and founded ScaleDB to develop a database engine for MySQL targeting performance, efficiency and scalability with the largest data sets.
